Who We Are – Our History
TrackDay Performance Ltd., TDP.ie, is an Irish Motorsports Company composed of experts in Design, Manufacturing and Consultancy of all motor sporting disciplines; originally founded in 2000 as a subsidiary of Peter Breen Ltd.
Peter Breen Ltd. – of motor engineers – was founded in 1905, and quickly emerged as a high precision engineering business focusing on engine reconditioning and race engines for use in all motorsport. By the 1990s, the company had established a strong presence in high-tec aerospace and medical engineering fields, brought to light by the innovative thinking of new recruit, Robbie Thornton. Robbie introduced Peter Breen Ltd. to state-of-the-art CNC machines, computerised design (CAD) and computerised manufacturing (CAM). In 1999, the company outgrew its initial reputable premises of 2 Main Street, Donnybrook, Dublin 4; a demand for flexibility and space to allow for the production of aerospace, medical, and motorsport parts alongside occured. A resolution was made in the form of its current residence – Unit 3, Railway Business Park, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow.
The early 2000s distinguished Peter Breen Ltd. as successful in many engineering disciplines, with Robbie gaining extensive knowledge and insights through work with some of the most established names in the business, such as Honeywell, Garrett, Boeing, Rolls Royce Aerospace, Arianespace, McGahn Medical, Inamed, Becton Dickinson, Ford, Bugatti, Boston Scientific, Stryker and EASA, to name a few. This time period, unfortunately, collided with the evolution of the low-cost Chinese manufacturing empire, to the demise of Ireland’s role as a key engineering centre for many multinational companies. This phenomenon left Robbie and his team with some tough decisions in terms of Peter Breen Ltd.’s future. However, with the motorsport market on their doorstep, the team were able to devise what the new formation of the company, going forwards, should look like. In 2009, TrackDay Performance Ltd., was formed as a stand-alone motorsport company. The owner, Robert Thornton, – Robbie@tdp.ie – has been mapping* road and race engines for 20 years, and is always striving for innovation without limitation in everything he does.
*Mapping – can also be referred to as remapping/tuning
What We Do
TrackDay Performance Ltd. offers motorsport design, modern in-house manufacturing and a wide range of motorsports consultancy across all domains, including, but not limited to: Circuit Racing (Endurance, GT, Single-Seater, F3, F3000), Stage Rally, RallyCross, Drag Racing, Drifting, Hill Climb and Historic. We are championship-winning engine builders of both normally aspirated and turbo-charged. We are experts in the design of engines for use in forced induction applications, either turbo or supercharged. We have knowledge of NOS or Nitrous Oxide as an additional power-booster. What separates us from some of our competition is our comprehensive knowledge and understanding of engine control systems (ECU’s).
Robbie has been mapping all types of engines for over 20 years. Over this time, he has worked with major ECU manufacturers, in development testing and application of their products. Some of the systems he has experience with are: Pectel, Magnetti Marelli, Cosworth, Life Racing, Syvecs, Gems, AEM, DTA, MBE, HKS, LINK, APEXI, VI-PEC, Autronic, Adaptech, Haltech, and many others.
We are the sole distributor of the full range of MoTeC products in Ireland, and Robbie has travelled to many parts of the world to install, calibrate and tune a wide variety of vehicles with MoTeC products. Likewise, we supply bespoke systems based on the MoTeC M1 ECU range. The flexibility of the system allows us to tailor the ECU firmware to suit almost any application, whether it be a custom normally-aspirated engine with advanced gearbox control, or a compound turbo fire-breathing monster. We can cater for all modern engine types with direct injection (DI) and hybrid control. Custom vehicles with CANbus can be tailored to every application.
We are master dealers/distributors for the LINK ECU brand, having used the product for over 15 years. Recently, we have helped with the development of their latest ECU offering: the G4X range. We provided real-world testing of the platform, as well as advancement of new functionality.
We are platinum dealers of the full Haltech range of engine management, displays, looms and accessories. We have more than 10 years experience in tuning this brand.
Our manufacturing department uses state-of-the-art software to drive our 4 high speed CNC machines. On our 5 axis Deckel Maho machines, we can make the most sophisticated parts to the highest tolerances possible and then inspect them on our in-house CMM. We have portable CMM equipment for vehicle measurements and use reverse engineering on all parts needed to modify your vehicle for optimal performance. Our TDP.ie suspension kits are designed with the highest level of care and attention, to aerospace standards. They are manufactured from the highest-quality aerospace aluminium and heat-treated stainless steels. Further, we design and manufacture intake manifolds for N/A and Turbo engines. We have complete solutions for the “Ultimate Ford Escorts”, which have grown popular – the giant crushing MKII Escort of Scottish 5-times Rally Champion David Bogie is just one example of this. This car features all the modern technology that is available for the modified, highly competitive escort rally class.
We are engine builders and focus on a range of uses. e.g Race, Rally and Drift but do some road engines. We have many years of experience with the Nissan RB20DET, RB25DET, RB26DETT and SR20DET. The Toyota 1JZ and 2JZ GTE and GE engines along with VVT-i variants. We also have experience with Mitubishi 4G63T and 4B11t as well as experience with the WRC versions of the 4G63. We have designed and built many engines to produce in excess of 250+ bhp per cylinder.
