TDP Win Mondello Time Attack Round 3

Sunday, the 17th of May, saw both the TDP R32 Skyline, and the TDP Evo VI, return to Mondello Park for the third round of the Time Attack. We arrived late that morning, due to a technical issue with the Evo, which caused Robbie a sleepless night. Since the last event, the GTR has undergone a major re-vamp consisting mainly of internal wiring work. We took a risk by changing our choice of tyres for both cars, but it paid off. We’re now using Kumho V70A tyres. They’re available from ourselves, and from Ears Motorsport, in Mallow, Co. Cork (Philip – 022 42050).

During the first practice session, Brendan set a time of 60.8secs in the Evo, according to our Motec transponder. Unfortunately though, due to some last minute rushing, we forgot to put the track transponder into the car.

The first qualifying session, saw Brendan setting a best time of 1:00.161 in the TDP Evo. The track condition was dry, which was ideal. Robbie was having issues with the 4-wheel drive system on the Skyline, as the settings were changed for Prodrift a couple of weeks ago. The best time Robbie could manage, was 1:06.508. A far cry from Round 2, where he set a time of 1:00.178. Dean Reilly managed to do a 1:03.777 in the Club Class in his TDP built and mapped Civic.

The weather drastically changed for the second qualifying session. The track was extremely wet, which made a big difference to the lap times that all competitors were setting. Robbie set a 1:15.793 in the Skyline, but this was mainly due to recurring problems with the 4wd system and the suspension set-up. Brendan managed to set the fastest time in this qualifying round, with a 1:08.161sec lap.

As the final drew closer, the weather improved, and the track dried up. Still experiencing some difficulty in finding the optimal suspension set-up, due to a limited amount of tools available, Robbie got a 1:02.467 in the final. This placed his fifth overall. Brendan took victory with a 1:00.355 lap time in the TDP Evo. We’re delighted with the win!

We’d also like to congratulate Dean Reilly for winning the Club Class in his Civic. A well deserved win. He was also using Kumho V70A tyres.
